indianola kids black and white A Message From Our Principal

I hope you and your families had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. It is hard to believe that we are entering December! With this in mind, I am writing to tell you about some of the great things happening at Indianola. Please see below for a list of several important dates in December.

As you are aware, this year one of our goals was to more formally and deeply integrate Arts into our learning community. To accomplish this, the Indianola Arts Team – comprised of Daryl Curry, Ruth Hall, Rachel Rowen, Sharon Sazdanoff and Amy Williams – has been meeting weekly, regularly visiting classrooms and preparing meaningful cross-curricular learning opportunities for Indy Students. With this in mind, on December 1, Indianola will host Transit Arts to work with our Middle School Students. Transit Arts, a program of Central Community House (CCH) and the Columbus Federation of Settlements, is a youth arts development program working in partnership with the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. Transit Arts transports young people to a place of discovery — where creative abilities expand and doors open to a world of possibilities. During their visit to Indianola, Transit Arts will be working with students in dance, spoken word poetry, visual arts, theatre improvisation and percussion/beat box. I would like to publicly thank our Arts Team for helping to achieve this important goal. Thank you, you are AMAZING!

As we approach the holidays, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a 2016 filled with much health, happiness, laughter and success.

With Indy Pride,

Jay M. Poroda

Principal

Indianola CCS Meeting Notes

The Indianola Community Meeting (Updated: Nov 30, 2015)

Indianola

The Indianola Community Meeting was held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.  This was an unprecedented joint meeting of the Indianola Informal K-8 community of parents, teachers, and support staff with Superintendent Dan Good and representatives from Columbus City Schools departments.  After a meeting in the auditorium, breakout sessions were held covering six categories of issues that had been brought to the district by the Indianola community.  Notes were taken in each session, and these notes are being used to create working documents to track progress on each issue.  All six working documents created from the Indianola Community Meeting notes are now available.  (The original meeting notes are also available: Indianola/CCS Joint Meeting Notes.)  Many positive changes are already underway. Click on the links below to go directly to the topic that interests you.
